Biography

Athelia Knight, a 33-year veteran of The Washington Post, is an adjunct professor in the Department of English at Georgetown University.

She has been Lecturer in the Council of the Humanities and Ferris Professor of Journalism at Princeton University. She also has been a professor-in-residence at Hampton University.

A former Nieman Fellow at Harvard University, Knight was a reporter on various staffs at The Washington Post, including metro, sports, and investigative news. She is an award-winning reporter and Pulitzer Prize finalist.

Her last eight years at the paper were spent working with students interested in journalism careers. She was assistant director and later director of the newsroom’s Young Journalists Development Program (YJDP), which The Post created in 1997 to help train the next generation of journalists.
